Jasmine POV

Another long night in New York City. It’s it supposed to be the city that never sleeps? If that were the case, there would definitely be something to do. But no. Just another night spent out counting the infinite stars up in the galaxy. I spend my time trying to plot out my own constellations, which is a lot harder than ancient astronomers make it seem. But when you’re a natural born night owl, there isn’t really much else to do.

“Jasmine,” an unpleasant voice called from behind me. I turned my head slightly to look at her.

“Karai,” I responded harshly.

“Shredder wants you.” She sneered. She clearly doesn’t like me, which is fine with me. I’m not a big fan of her either.

I stood up from the edge of the roof and followed her back to Shredders throne room. “Yes, Master Shredder?”

“Jasmine, what’s the progress report of your project with Stockman. Have you come any closer to creating the mind control serum?” He asked.

“Stockman and I are working very hard on the right formula. It’s going to take us a little while longer to get the proportions just right.” I bowed my head in respect. Stockman and I had been working on this project for over a month, and I could tell that Shredder was growing impatient of waiting. I’m not sure what he wants it for. And I’m not of ranking to ask. But I will continue to do my work until we get the serum to work the way he wants it to.

“Thank you, my daughter,” When he spoke, I could sense the fire in Karai’s eyes. She hated when he called me that. He wasn’t my real father, but he took me when I had no one. He saved my life, and made it so much better. And it burned Karai that he saw me as one of his own.

“You’re welcome, sensei” I never dared to call him father. Karai would not hesitate to attack me. And though I would love to give her a piece of my blade, it would displease Master Shredder. It will just have to wait until training.

I went back to the rooftops and sat there for a while longer. Still the same old silence. The city that never sleeps; isn’t that what they call New York City. That’s a lie. There is no such thing as nightlife around here. Lost in thought, I heard the sound of clacking blades from across the street. I stood up to investigate, gripping my own blade for protection. Looking across the seat I saw something I’ve never seen before. Turtles.
But not just any turtles. These turtles were huge, roughly six feet tall. And they yielded common ninja weapons. I could see katanas, sais, and nunchucks. They all had different colored masks across their eyes. Blue, purple, red, and orange. I had never seen them before. How could I have missed four ninja turtles? I’m out here almost every single night.

“Raph, don’t make me push you off this rooftop. Step off.” The turtle in the blue mask shouted, pointing his katanas out.

“Don’t make me laugh, lame-o-nardo.” The turtle in red chuckled.

“Can you guys quit fighting long enough to finish the mission,” The one in turtle stepped between the other two.

“Seriously, guys. Let’s just get this done. I wanna go back to watching cartoons.” The orange banded turtle added. The three others gave him a stern glare shouting “Mikey” to which he cowered in fear.

Mission? What mission could four turtles possibly complete? I decided to follow after them, but keeping far enough behind they wouldn’t notice me. They were headed to the TCRI building. What could they be doing there? I wondered. It’s just another office building. There are tons of them in New York City. What makes this one so special?

They stopped in an alley across the street from the building. I stayed up on the rooftop, making it impossible for me to hear their conversation. I did manage to hear them say “Kraang” though. I know that word. I’ve heard Shredder has said that once or twice to Stockman. Maybe these turtles were working for Shredder, some kind of elite ninja gang he saves for his most difficult missions. Maybe he’s grown tired of Karai’s failure.

I wanted to know more about their mission, so I quietly crept down the fire escape and joined them in the alley, hiding behind a dumpster. I accidentally rustled a few garbage bags, an action I knew I’d regret in the near future. The turtles suddenly stopped talking. I mentally cursed myself out. If they were Shredder’s men-turtle ninjas, they would be trained to decapitate me on sight.

“Who’s there?” One of them called out. I stayed as silent as possible. I heard a throwing star land near me, and I reached to grab it. There was a strange symbol on the star. I’d never seen it before. These guys couldn’t be Shredder’s guys. His stars always bared the foot clan logo. I instantly became wearier of these turtle ninjas. Before I could make an escape, the turtle in red was standing right in front of me. I quickly pulled out my dagger and sent it into his forearm, trying to make room for an escape. He winced in pain, but managed to throw stars into the cloth of my black kimono. I was pinned to the wall without my weapon. Defenseless. I struggled to get free, but it was no use. Two of the turtles surrounded me. The turtle in purple tending to the red ones wound.

“Who are you?” The blue clad turtle asked.

I struggled, “Let me go and I’ll talk.” I fought.

They all looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders. Eventually they let me down.  “Alright, you’re down. Now talk.” The turtle in blue commanded.

“My name is Jasmine Moyer.” I admitted. “Who are you?”

“I’m Leonardo,” the turtle in blue said, “That’s Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael.” He pointed to the turtles in orange, purple, and red, respectively. “What are you doing here? Why are you following us?”

“No reason.” I admitted, as there really was none. Just my curiosity. “Can I have my dagger back?”

Raphael glared at me, “Yeah, as soon as I get it out of my skin.” He seemed to lunge at me, but Donatello stopped him, still trying to patch up the damage.

“I’m sorry about that. I was taught to strike first, ask later. I was just following my training.” I smirked.

“Who taught you that? That’s how you kill the innocent.” Leonardo looked puzzled.
“Oroku Saki.”

“Oroku Saki, you mean the Shredder? You’re in the foot clan!” Leonardo shouted.

I nodded, “Shredder found me abandoned when I was a baby in Japan. He’s like a father to me.” I explained.

“The Shredder…is your adoptive father!” Donatello tried to make sense of it.

“Yes, is that so hard to believe? What does that mean to you anyway?” I asked. The turtles were silent. They looked around at each other with weary glances. I figured they weren’t going to answer, “Okay, what’s your story. What are you guys?”

“We’re turtles, mutant turtles.” Donatello explained their mutation and their connection with the Kraang. He explained their mission at TCRI as well as all they’ve done against the Kraang in the dark of night.

I was terrified all of this was happening here in New York City. And here I thought this city was so boring. Little did I know there was a huge invasion taking place right under my nose. “I want to help you fight the Kraang.” I almost demanded.

The turtles huddled into a formation, periodically checking on me, making sure I don’t escape.

“Okay, you can help us. But there’s one condition.” They added. “You keep all of this a secret from Shredder.”

“Deal,” I smiled excitedly. Finally something new to do. “Can I have my dagger back now?” I saw Raphael holding it in his hand. He handed it back to me. “Thank you.”

“Just don’t stab anyone again.” Leonardo stated.

“Deal.” I added. “What do we do now?”

Leonardo looked at the TCRI building. They had missed their opportunity tonight to get inside. He sighed, “Nothing tonight. Report back here tomorrow night at midnight and we’ll start our infiltration plan.”

“Got it.” I smiled. I looked away for one moment and when I looked back, the turtles were gone. I went back to Shredder’s lair and sat back on the rooftop. I gazed up at the stars again, thinking about alien races that could have infiltrated our society. There was already one, maybe there were more that we didn’t know about. I spent the night thinking of all the new adventures ahead of me, all thanks to those ninja turtles.
